Hi folks,

I would suspect that most of you here are probably fairly young, and I hope you would give a retired old man some slack for asking what may be either dumb or improper questions.  Normally I am not a big computer game player, but maybe 15 years ago I bought a Duke Nukem game which came on about five 3.5 inch floppy discs.  I had no idea what I was doing until I found information on walkthroughs and cheat codes.  Once I could cheat and use a walkthrough, I enjoyed the game thoroughly.  I guess most folks would consider my actions to be very weak, but like I said before, I am not a serious gamer, and I enjoyed playing the game with the cheats.  It was fun to me.

Then someone told me that I might like the Wolfenstein 3D game, and I bought it in 3.5 floppy discs.  Again my idea of enjoying the game was to use cheat codes and walkthroughs.  Yes, I cheated, but I was only cheating myself.

Some years later I was retired, I had to get a new computer, and I found my Duke Nukem and Wolfenstein 3D would no longer work on my computer.  That was bad news, and I did without for a couple of years.  Then I found Return To Castle Wolfenstein, and I thought it was just the greatest.  I could load it on my laptop and play the game without the disc in the drive.  Yes, I again used walkthroughs and cheat codes - it's my way of having fun with the game.  I never was interested in playing on the net with other folks.  I was always happy to play the single player mode.

Two years ago I had to get a new computer which ran Vista, and again I lost the use of my sole game, Return To Castle Wolfenstein.  I did without until a few days ago when I found Wolfenstein 2009.  I loaded it on my Vista based computer, and it does work, but there are some serious concerns for me.  My first concern was that it required the disc to be in the computer to run the game.  Is this the way it works, or did I load it wrong?

My second concern is even worse - I cannot figure out how to get the cheat codes I found to work.  Face it, if I can’t cheat, I can’t begin to play the game.  I did find and print out two walkthroughs, but I can’t seem to get the cheat codes to work.  I found several cheat listings telling me to change the wolf.cfg file, and I did make the changes, but I can’t see them work.  Would anyone be able to point me in the right direction here?

Also, could anyone tell me if a Duke Nukem is available for the Vista OP?

Best wishes,
Dave Wile

This (long awaited) patch will update Wolfenstein to version 1.2, and contains a number of bug fixes and updates to weapon performance.
Read the full description
- Players will now receive their proper gold and stats at the end of the match instead of occasionally losing their gold and upgrades - New legal text - Global chat is now UNavailable in spectator mode - Objective explosions don't count towards team kills (they will however still kill a player) - The dedicated servers will now sort correctly by ping - A waiting bar has been added when waiting for the servers to appear - When the player goes into the game, the auto-assign selection is highlighted gold instead of black - Competition mode (all unlocks available, option to turn off the arrows above enemy players) - MP43 and MP40 are adjusted in terms of damage, range and accuracy. - Pressing T will bring up the chat box without also entering the letter T as the first letter - Panzershrek has more splash damage - Veil Sight drains veil energy more quickly - Ironsights is more effective - Amount of ammo picked up off of dead players is reduced.

Hello.

I'm new to the forum and I have a problem with the MP's Wolfensteins the game closes and gives me an error in "Scanning for tools" ...

According to this:

Wolfenstein multiplayer error - "scanning tools for crash
Solution: Update to the latest version wolfenstein
Solution: If you are using Windows, try putting your etqw config (or rename autoexec.cfg etqwbinds and etqwconfig to wolfbinds and wolfconfig) in C: \ Documents and Settings \ My Documents \ id Software \ WolfMP \ base (as posted by angelus on Wolfenstein forum)
Solution: Did you add / tweak your config lately? I had to delete my autoexec and wolfconfig files (in both the "base" and "sdnet" folders) and have Wolfenstein regenerate them. (as posted by charger on Wolfenstein forum)

You should not work to fix it but in my case and I am a little discouraged with all this, is there any other solution?.

I hope I answered.

Bye ...

Was the first game I played on my first PC.
Commodore 286 @ 12Mhz, 1024kb RAM and a 10Mb HD back in summer 1992
I had a SoundBlaster in that PC too.
ID Software made it for the PC, the console version came first later on.

i've found that the sound gets really choppy
when there's a lot of sounds or activity going on
this is a surpise since i have an SB FX gamer card installed
the game runs beautifully otherwise (albeit on lowish settings)
any ideas?  can i reduce quality or number of sounds via the console?
anyone know how?
running an ASUS p5p800, intel p4 3.0, 1 gig RAM, Saphire HD 3850...

thanks,
simon
